Main Item: World Trade Centre Accra Launch
The World Trade Centre(WTC) Accra is to be launched in Septmber of this year (2001) to offer services & facilities for a "one stop business".

Estimated at about US$45 million,it is to give businesses the opportunity to spread their activities accross the world and to open doors in their own economic region.

A question many business analysts ask is whether business in Ghana is growing at the rate at which it should.

Enterprise Insurance Earns ¢20.6 Billion Premium
Enterprise Insurance, the only listed insurer on the Ghana Stock Exchange, recorded gross premium income of ¢20.592 billion in 2000, a whopping 47% increase from the ¢13.957 billion raked in 1999.

This was achieved despite a very challenging environment in the year that saw the Ghanaian economy coming under severe strain in the face of escalating inflation, depreciation of the cedi against major international currencies, rising oil prices & detoriation of export earnings from cocoa & gold.

During the week, the cedi appreciated by about 0.12% in relation to the united states dollar(USD).
The average interbank USD/GHC quoted by the association of Bankers at the end of last week was ¢7,154.31 as against the previous week's
¢7,163.22.

AGC to attract big mining giants ?
The Ashanti Goldfields Corporation could attract major mining players if the gorvernment of Ghana & Lonmin sell of their shares.This would allow major mining concerns to tap into Ashanti's reserves at a cost of about US $4 a share, says equity research firm JP Morgan.
A potential buyout of Ashanti is also likely to be beneficial for the company's traded 5.5% note due at 2003.JP Morgan has raised its earnings forecast in 2002 from $0.33 to $0.50.
