Since the inception of the 4th Republican Constitution in 1992, Ghana has gone through 3 elections with the National Democratic Congress under Ex-President John Rawlings winning the first two & the New Patriotic Party under current President John Kufour winning the 2000 elections.Political parties that contested the 2000 elections include the Peoples National Covention(PNC),the National Reform Party(NRP),the Covention Peoples Party(CPP), the Great Consolidated Popular Party(GCPP), the New Patriotic Party(NPP), the United Ghana Movement(UGM) & the National Democratic Congress(NDC).
Parties to work together ?
Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, Member of Parliament for Bimbilla has asked Political Parties, Religious Bodies & Chiefs to strive to minimise conflicts & bickering & unite to deal wit crucial issues that are threatening the smooth & orderly development of the country.
He said this at this year's Damba Festival celebrated in Accra recently & organised by the Dagbon-Nanung communities in the Greater Accra Region.According to Dr. Chambas, political parties, chiefs & religious bodies owe it as a sacred duty to allow national considerations to over-ride sectional & other partisan interests in their scheme of activities.

PNC not happy with Government's Economic Policies
The leader of the PNC, Dr Edward Nasigre Mahama has said that the government's economic policies leave much to be desired.Policies such as the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries(HIPC) initiative have virtually tied the hands of the government at its back & given the mandate of governance of the country to foreigners.He said this to newsmen after a National Standing Committee of the party at Koforidua.
Mallam Isa still a member of PNC says PNC
The PNC has said that Mallam Ali Yusuf Isa, former Minister of Youth & Sports who is currently serving a 4-year jail sentence for the loss of $46,000 is still a member of the party.
Dr Mahama who wsa reacting to to the recent conviction of Mallam Isa in an interveiw in Accra said the PNC is awaiting the outcome of the appeal filed by Mallam Isa against his conviction by the Fast Track Court.When the judicial process has been exhausted , the PNC would on the basis of the prevailing situation decide what appropriate action to take, he stressed.
Rule of Law would Reign - Prez. Kufuor
The President has given the assurance that rule of law would reign supreme in his administration.he said that the government would not allow any Minister of state or official to take the law into his/her own hands.Anyone including the President himself who falls foul of the law would be dealt with according to the tenets of the constitution.He said this when addressing a durbar of chiefs & people during his recent tour of the Brong-Ahafo region.
Parties have no pre-conditions

The Great Consolidated Popular Party(GCPP) has said that the four political parties involved in unity talks have no intention to present preconditions in their bid to mergee their ranks into a single political force to contest & win the next general elections slated fo December 2004.
It said that the GCPP, the NRP(National Reform Party), the CPP(Convention People's Party), the PNC( People's National Convention) have acknowledged that past attempts by parties claiming to be of the Nkrumaist Tradition have failed to unite for the simple reason that their leadership gathered at such talks with preconditions.
The leader of the GCPP, Mr Dan lartey in an interview in Accra recently gave the assurance that parties engaged in the present consultations would forge ahead to form a united front & not repeat the mistakes of the past.
