| One of the two gateways to Ghana from Burkina Faso, the Upper East Region (the other being the Upper West Region) constitute one of the traditional crossroads for the trans-saharan trade routes.Much of the landscape is broad savannah grasslands dotted with the the strange looking Baobab tree, or striking Sahel terrain. In the villages, with their distinctive round & square huts, communal activities go on as they have for generations. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

to be important trading points & 'bolga' is a famous centre for handicrafts,
including straw hats & baskets, leather goods & metal jewellery.
